The River Ivel once had enough water flow to support at least thirteen water mills along its path from Baldock to Tempsford. Water mills were at Baldock (Blackhorse Mill), Norton (Norton Mill), Radwell (Radwell Mill), Stotfold (Stotfold Mill and Taylor’s Mill), Astwick (Bowman’s Mill), Langford (Lanford Mill), Broom (Holme’s Mill), Biggleswade (Franklin’s Mill), Sandy (Sandy Mill), Blunham (South Mill and Blunham Mill), and Tempsford (Estate Mill).
A few old postcards of some of these water mills and the River Ivel follows. Note the amount of water within the Ivel.
